I think that we are in a time where viral marketing is almost, if not more, important than traditional marketing. Social media branding has taken off in the past few years or so, and furthermore, people see it. People are on social media more now than they are reading magazines or billboards or even watching cable t.v.
According to the article, viral marketing's message must hit three points: messenger, message, and environment. The messenger is anyone with a large social following who can get the message seen, like how the Kardashians promote Fit Tea or Sugar Bear Hair. The message is whatever the person of business is trying to promote, such as Fit Tea or Sugar Bear Hair, but it is more memorable in a way that people will remember it and actually want to buy it. And finally, the environment is the timing and the context of the when and where the viral marketing takes place, and it is very important because the environment determines the relevancy of the product or whatever else they are trying to market.
I think it is important to acknowledge that we live in a time where social media and technology literally rule our society. Viral marketing extends beyond that of course, but this is the main platform. It can be seen as unfortunate, but regardless it is true and very effective.
